Please join our virtual meeting as we hear Mr. Andy Klieber from MNS to present the construction management aspects of the eBART to Antioch project in Contra Costa County. eBART is a 10 mile rail extension into east Contra Costa County. The success of the project was due to significant planning for the delivery and coordination during execution. This can be measured in the ridership so significantly out preforming expectations that an additional 900 space parking lot is now being added. The $500 million project utilized a new technology for BART - Diesel Multiple Units. The project was successfully delivered to the public through a collaborative effort involving BART, Caltrans, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, the Cities of Antioch and Pittsburg as well as Tri-Delta Transit. The effort involved 5 BART construction contracts, 2 BART procurement contracts, 7 Caltrans construction contracts, and a City of Pittsburg construction contract.
The eBART team won 4 awards, including the ACEC Engineering Excellence Honor award at the national level. The project also won a 2019 APWA NorCal, Project of the Year award, and 2019 CMAA Project Achievement Award. MNS provided construction management, resident engineer and systems field engineer. The team included: Mike Chan, Andy Klieber, and Robert Kraft.
About our Speaker:
Andy Kleiber, P. E., was the Resident Engineer for the six BART construction contract that for the eBART Project, as well as providing oversight for the six Caltrans Projects that constructed elements of the eBART System. He is a Principal Construction Manager for MNS Engineers, Inc. In his 30 year career, he has had a leading role in the construction of all variety of transportation projects including transit, interchanges, bridges and roadways.
Mr. Kleiber has worked for MNS for 17 years. Prior to that, he had 7 years of consulting experience. He began his career at Caltrans in 1990, where he spent 6 years working in roadway design, bridge design, road construction, and structure construction.
Mr. Kleiber earned his B. S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Villanova University. He lives in Oakland, CA with his wife with whom he has 2 sons. He enjoys biking, running, camping, Ultimate Frisbee, homebrewing and cooking.
